In January 2025, Laporiya Foods was recognized as the Best SME at the Bhoomi Ka Conference on Food Systems Transformation—an award that reflects not just business success, but a deep-rooted commitment to rural livelihoods, indigenous cattle preservation, and sustainable food systems.
Behind this inspiring journey is Pratap Singh, a grassroots entrepreneur from Laporiya village, Rajasthan, whose dedication to Gir cow rearing and pure dairy production has created a ripple effect across nearby villages.

A Legacy Reimagined
Pratap’s journey began with the inspiration of his father, who in the 1980s, trained in dairy practices and recognized the potential of indigenous Gir cows. His father helped form village-level committees and sourced bulls from Gujarat, reviving the breed and laying the groundwork for future growth.
Yet, despite high-quality milk from indigenous cows, there was no system to guarantee fair prices for farmers. Government dairies paid low rates, ignoring the nutritional superiority of native breed milk. This challenge gave birth to Laporiya Foods in 2016, aiming to create a farmer-first value chain.
While the initial days involved collecting and selling just 12 litres of milk, the enterprise began to grow, but scaling up wasn’t easy.
That’s where Bhoomi Ka came in.
Through targeted trainings, exposure visits, business development support, and buyer-seller meet-ups, Bhoomi Ka helped Pratap and his team refine their business strategy, improve operational systems, and expand their reach. These engagements were critical in enhancing product quality, branding, packaging, and establishing direct urban market linkages.
As a result, the daily milk collection rose to over 3,000 litres from 15 villages, and monthly income saw a significant jump. Many rural youth, previously unemployed, are now earning up to ₹1.5 lakhs per month by rearing Gir cows and supplying milk to Laporiya Foods.

A Rural Brand with Urban Reach
Laporiya Foods now offers a range of products—milk, ghee, butter, chana dal, and other clean-label items—delivered to cities like Jaipur and soon Delhi. The brand ensures cold chain management, milk sampling, and quality checks, safeguarding both farmer income and consumer health.
Today, Pratap leads a thriving ₹4-5 crore turnover enterprise that continues to grow with a strong rural base and clear ecological values.
Looking Ahead
With Bhoomi Ka’s continued guidance, Pratap Singh aims to expand to 100 villages, encouraging more farmers to rear indigenous Gir cows and adopt ethical dairy practices.
Laporiya Foods is also focusing on strengthening its farmer base, ensuring consistent quality, and increasing daily milk collection through trust-based relationships.
They plan to deepen their market presence in Jaipur and other cities, tapping into conscious consumer segments.
Bhoomi Ka’s support in market linkages and exposure to best practices continues to be a key driver of growth, especially for engaging more youth in sustainable dairy entrepreneurship.
Laporiya Foods stands as a rural enterprise success story, showing how community-rooted models can scale with the right ecosystem support.
